Kindness, Gratitude and Good Old-Fashioned Manners Extended from The White House to The Glass Café!

Image of Laura BushLetter from Laura Bush

First Lady Laura Bush and her letter to Amy (click to enlarge)

These days, it’s dangerous to share your views on politics, sex or religion…for fear that you could alienate people who don’t share your opinions. Though I don’t want to impose my political views into my business, I’m not ashamed and am very proud to say I have great confidence in and respect for our President and The First Lady. As a private citizen, there is very little that I can do to express my respect and appreciation to the man and woman who are leading and protecting the most powerful nation on earth. But a thought occurred to me…why can’t I? I’ve been able to develop a business in this great country because of the guidance, leadership and security I have. So why shouldn’t I share my emerging business story and the products I’ve created with the people that ultimately make that possible. I listened to my heart and thoughtfully wrote a letter, selected two of my Starfish Pendants in patriotic RED and OCEAN (Blue)…and carefully mailed them off to The First Lady at The White House. Here is a portion of the letter I sent to Mrs. Bush:

There ARE many, many Americans that believe in President Bush’s vision and sleep better at night knowing that he is leading and protecting this country.  It has been during this presidency that my family had the courage and belief in this economy and in me to start a second business.  I conceived of and launched The Glass Café, a unique collection of European-inspired glass rings and pendants almost 3 years ago….Believing in myself, staying the course, and not giving up regardless of the obstacles I still face are what made my dream come true…and made this business a reality.  As a small token of my thankfulness for the honor you have brought back to The White House, I am enclosing two glass pendants from my jewelry collection…Let (them) remind you that women are making business dreams come true and improving their financial stability thanks to the way you and President Bush represent, guide and protect this nation.  I am grateful!

I felt really good about my decision to send a small gift of my jewelry to The First Lady… my own little but important way of showing support and appreciation. I was hopeful that my jewelry would actually end up being seen by Mrs. Bush. But security levels at The White House are obviously very high and there is no guarantee that The First Lady would actually receive these…and being glass, what condition would they be in once security examined my package? I kept telling myself what a tremendous honor it would be to actually have Mrs. Bush wear a piece of my jewelry! So no matter what happened, at least The First Lady would know that I was proud enough and cared enough to take the time to send a small token of respect and appreciation.

On the morning of October 4th (2006), approximately 2 weeks after sending off my package to The White House, I was sitting at my desk…and I received a phone call.  A very friendly woman introduced herself and stated that she was calling from The White House…I was stunned!  After thanking me and complimenting the beautiful jewelry that I’d sent to Mrs. Bush, I provided some basic information (necessary when sending a government official any type of gift, no matter the value).  What a complete thrill this was…to receive a phone call from someone on Mrs. Bush’s staff, taking time to thank me for my gift!  I’d like to say I was amazed…but The President and The First Lady handle everything with such class and integrity, I shouldn’t have been!  And within two weeks, I received a lovely photo and actual thank-you note (on The White House stationery) from The First Lady!  So once the framing of these two special items are completed, I will have a daily reminder hanging in my office of this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence…this amazing, elegant and gracious woman accepted a gift from me…and took the time to thank me!  How refreshing and inspiring to know that some people, regardless of how important or powerful they are, always act with KINDNESS, GRATITUDE AND GOOD OLD-FASHIONED MANNERS!

Fort Wayne, Indiana, August 25, 2006 — The Glass Café was one of the featured artists of gallery8010 at an open house reception in August, where guests enjoyed wine and hors d'oeuvre while browsing, buying and meeting with and greeting three visiting artists.

Gallery guests had a chance to meet with Amy Odom, V. P. of Product Design and Marketing, and view the complete line of glass jewelry and pendants carried by gallery8010.

"We love to feature The Glass Cafe any time we host or sponsor an event," explained Donna Emley, owner of gallery8010. "The line makes an incredible statement, and our customers love the beautiful glass rings and pendants, so it was wonderful to be able to give our customers a chance to meet Amy personally and hear more about what inspires this exquisite line," she concluded.

The Glass Café's Amy Odom was flattered and pleased to be invited to the opening of gallery8010, that has featured The Glass Café’s glass rings and pendants since May.  "All of the merchandise that the gallery features has real artistic flare… their gallery environment and approach to the market furthers that creative spirit," explained Odom.  "Donna and Dennis Emley, the owners of gallery8010, have an infectious enthusiasm about their new venture and the artists which they have selected.  They showcase entire collections of products from many different artists, rather than a simple handful of items from a few.  Customers are sure to be wowed with the scope, mix and mediums they’re offering, all of which are so visually exciting," she continues. "From wearable fashion items — like The Glass Café jewelry! — to usable household accessories and hangable/stationary decorative pieces…everything is colorful, stylish, and original!  I love creating my glass jewelry line because I believe it is fresh and uncommon, and it certainly has found a wonderful home here," she concluded.

Fort Wayne, Indiana, May 12, 2006 — The Glass Café was one of the featured artists of gallery8010 at "Tapestry: A Day for Women", an event designed to help raise scholarship funds for women interested in attending Indiana-University/Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Nearly 700 women attended the all-day event, which included keynote speaker Linda Ellerbee, breakout sessions, and a boutique and trade show venue.

"We've been a proud sponsor of Tapestry for the past three years," said Donna Emley, co-owner of gallery8010. "When we found out Linda Ellerbee was going to be the keynote speaker, we asked if we could make a special presentation to her at the sponsorship reception to thank her for serving as a role model and inspiration for so many women."

Ellerbee, author, TV personality, breast cancer survivor, and creator of Nick News, was presented with a Glass Café Pink Candy Pendant from Emley, to honor her as a pioneer, role model, and survivor.

The Glass Café exquisite glass jewelry line was also on display in the boutique area of Tapestry during the shopping hours, as part of the artists represented by gallery8010. The ucky raffle winner that day also used their gallery8010 gift certificate to purchase — what else? — A Glass Café Red Candy Swirl ring!

"We appreciate the encouragement and sponsorship support we receive from The Glass Café when we sponsor events like Tapestry," explained Emley. "Amy Odom has great promotional ideas and is always willing to help our events to include The Glass Café and be great successes," she concluded.

Fort Wayne, Indiana, April 20, 2006 — Fort Wayne Woman Magazine celebrated its first year in publication with a "Woman's Night Out" on April 20th — an evening of fun and celebration intended to honor local community women — and The Glass Café was part of the celebration!

The sellout event included a signature drink, enticing appetizers, and live entertainment at two venues for over 500 women, plus a raffle of fantastic prizes throughout the evening. Guests also received a fabulous Vera Bradley tote filled with assorted gifts from local businesses.

Gallery8010, who carries the complete line of Glass Café jewelry, was an event sponsor and also donated a raffle item. Dennis and Donna Emley, co-owners of gallery8010, were on hand at the Club Soda venue to make a special presentation to entertainer Julie Hadaway. Hadaway, an up-and-coming performer who sings tunes dedicated solely to women, shared the stage at the Martina McBride concert earlier in the year, adding her big voice to both the concert and this event.

"This was a perfect event to introduce gallery8010 and The Glass Café to the Fort Wayne community," explained Donna Emley. Emley presented Hadaway with a opal Starfish Pendant from The Glass Café during a break in the evening's entertainment.

"Julie is making dreams come true, one song at a time," continued Emley. "So we thought it appropriate to present a "rising star" with her very own star as a special thank-you from one of the event sponsors."

The Glass Café introduces two new colors for late summer/early fall

You'll be tickled "pink", or "green" with envy when you catch a glimpse of our two new colors.

Fresh and crisp; cool and clean — CELERY is THE green color right now — a cool soothing green that wraps up the summer and takes you beautifully right into the fall. CELERY is available in our Starfish Rings and Pendants, our Heart Pendants and our Circle Pendants.

And what girl doesn't love pink? We have twice as much to love — our PETAL is soft, sweet, and pretty - think wild roses or snapdragons - and this new color is available in our Starfish Rings and Pendants and our Heart Pendants.

Our PINK is cool and icy — visualize a long tall glass of pink lemonade or an icy watermelon martini — somewhat sweet, but completely refreshing! Candy Square Rings and Circle Pendants are available in this classic color.

The Glass Café to Show Early 2005 Spring Collection at Chicago Gift and Home Market

Crystal Lake, Illinois, January 22, 2005 — Just a little over a week back from its New York City debut at AccessoriesTheShow, The Glass Café is opening its doors again — this time in its own backyard. The Glass Café will be exhibiting as part of the juried Urban Chic exhibition January 22nd-25th at the Chicago Gift and Home Market, held at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

“We were very excited to meet the criteria for Urban Chic,” explained Amy Odom, V. P. of Product Design and Marketing for The Glass Café. Described as innovative and original, incorporating a modern flair that is evident in the unique design of the products, Odom feels this new section of contemporary and unique designs is the perfect fit for their glass rings and pendants. “The buyers at the New York show were very excited about our jewelry and the different designs and colors we’re offering for spring,” said Odom. “The aquatic colors (teal, ocean, pool, and aqua) and the opal white starfish pendant and ring were all big hits,” she continued.

“We were especially happy to have buyers who were already carrying glass jewelry in their boutiques place orders with us specifically because of our colors, shapes and designs,” said Odom. “So many commented on the uniqueness of our line, and one they must have to offer their customers, which made us very happy to hear,” she concluded.

The Glass Café included for Exclusive Gift Tote During Accessory Market Week in NYC

Crystal Lake, Illinois, January 5, 2005 — Key retailers, buyers, fashion editors and the media received an exclusive “sneak peak” to the exquisite glass jewelry The Glass Café will be exhibiting at the upcoming trade show January 9-11th in New York City.  The Glass Café was included in special gift totes that will be hand-delivered throughout New York City to key fashion editors, major fashion magazines, TV stations, and key retailers and buyers prior to the trade event.

AccessoriesTheShow, the world’s largest and longest running juried all-accessory trade show has garnered the reputation as the upscale trade event of the industry by attracting the most coveted  buyers. The gift totes — which went to approximately 35 locations, including upscale boutiques and such stores as Henri Bendel, Verve, and Bloomingdales; O magazine, InStyle, and Vogue; and local media  — are provided one week prior to the show to showcase the hottest, newest merchandise in the accessories industry for the season.

“We were THRILLED to our find out our jewelry was going to be included in these exclusive gift totes,” exclaimed Amy Odom, V. P. of Product Design and Marketing for The Glass Café. “This is an amazing list of prospective customers that will be in attendance, and to have an opportunity to put a piece of our glass jewelry in their hands before the show gives us tremendous marketing exposure,” she continued.

The Glass Café currently offers both glass rings and glass pendants in a variety of shapes, styles, and colors — many of which are not available anywhere else. Pendants are available in circles, hearts, stars, or starfish. The rings are available as triangles, hearts, stars, starfish, and domes — all in a wide range of sizes. Both will be shown in this season’s most popular colors.

The Glass Café to Debut Early 2005 Spring Collection of Glass Jewelry in Big Apple

Crystal Lake, Illinois, December 1, 2004 — The Glass Café is headed to New York City to debut its exquisitely-crafted glass jewelry at one of the leading fashion trade shows in the industry. AccessoriesTheShow, held January 9-11, 2005 at the at the Javits Center, attracts over 10,000 specialty buyers to their January show, and The Glass Café is happy to be making its debut as an exhibitor.

“We’re very excited to see the reaction of the buyers to our jewelry,” explained Amy Odom, V. P. of Product Design and Marketing for The Glass Café. “So far, the women who have worn our jewelry love the look and feel of the glass, and are excited about the different designs and colors we’re offering for spring,” she continues.

The Glass Café currently carries both glass rings and glass pendants in a variety of shapes and styles, and in a rainbow of colors — many of which are not available anywhere else. Pendants are available in the shape of a circle, heart, star, or starfish — with touches of gold- or silver-leaf in the glass. The rings are available as triangles, hearts, stars, starfish, candy mushrooms, candy squares and domes — all in a range of sizes, which is something else that sets The Glass Café apart.

“Glass jewelry IS the up-and-coming staple as an accessory in the U.S.,” says Odom.  Since glass jewelry has been around for hundreds of years in Italy, Odom doesn’t really consider glass jewelry a “trend.”  She predicts that it may initially be viewed like a new trend until it’s fully realized and appreciated in the U.S.   “Our goal is to further the 'trend' here in the U.S. and continue to create designs, shapes, and pieces exclusive to The Glass Café with new colors introduced each season.”
